Megara from Hercules DisneyBound Outfit & Halloween Costume Ideas

I've always appreciated the, uh, re-imagining Disney has done to base their characters and movies on mythology, legends, and fairytales. It's no secret that many, many of these stories like The Little Mermaid and Cinderella have much darker and more PG-13 origins, and perhaps there is no truer example than that of the Disney movie Hercules.

Let's start with Zeus. He steps out on Hera...a lot, and does not get the consent of his lovers. Hercules is conceived with a mortal by Zeus using his powers to impersonate her husband! And when Hera finds out? Oh, she is not happy, and she sends the snakes to kills poor baby Herc.

According to Greek Mythology Megara did marry Hercules, but it's certainly not happily ever after for our star-crossed lovers. Depending on who's version of the story you're reading, the whole thing is ended tragically by when Hera, who really cannot let go of a grudge. She bewitches Hercules to go mad, and he murders Meg and their three sons...

So you can see, the folks at Disney know how to spin, and I for one am grateful. Meg was one of the earliest female Disney characters in my childhood who wasn't a doe-eyed, conversing with animals kind of princess. She a had a snarky, broken, femme-fatale thing going that was a lot more fun to watch and relatable than say Ariel, who wants to leave her family, fins, and life at 16 for a guy she had only just laid eyes on.

If you want to see any of the items I used to create this look you can find them below. And you do your own Megara DisneyBound please tag me so I can tell you what a greek goddess you are.

**What is DisneyBounding, you ask? DisneyBound was not created by me (see Disneybound.co ) but it's basically Disney dress-up for adults. You take a character for inspiration vs. wearing an actual costume. Think of it like a fashion wink to your favorite Disney movies. If you are planning a Disney vacation I 100% encourage you to give it a try. We all loved dress-up when we were kids, and we never have to "grow up."

Stay magic, friends.
